Record attempt nets charity cash

An attempt at a new world record netted more than £2,200 for charity.
Will Stephens took on 26 opponents at real tennis over more than 24 hours, all in aid of Sport Relief.
Mr Stephens, 46, a former pupil at Tabor High School, Braintree, pushed his body to the max at Prested Hall in Feering.
Real tennis, which is similar to the lawn game, is played with heavy wooden rackets which helped increase the effort needed from Mr Stephens.
From 10.30am on Saturday until just past 10.30am on Sunday Mr Stephens played 55 consecutive sets of real tennis.
He was allowed a five minute break for every hour completed and he said towards the end he was having physio, on his feet and one of his knees, in the breaks.
“It was hard work, it really was,” said the father-of-two from Newton, near Sudbury. “I had lots of support from club members and staff, they were fantastic and the adrenalin was pumping which helped.”
In his first game Mr Stephens beat Claire Vigrass, from Inworth, who is one of the top women’s players in the world.
The record attempt, for which a new category had to be created, was videoed and the evidence needs to be submitted to Guinness World Records before it can be confirmed.
